Ancient Cemetery of Parikia
Recent excavations (1983) brought the great cemetery to light, which dates from the late 8th century BC to the 3rd century AD.
The cemetery was found near the port, next to the coastal road. It comprises various types of tombs from several different eras. The most significant find was a polyandreion (group tomb), the only one in the Aegean, dating back to the late Geometric period (8th century BC).
A huge headstone stands before the polyandreion. Today, the site is an archaeological park. The display center next to the cemetery houses interesting discoveries and photographs from excavations both past and present.
