A representation of the pirate invasion of the island transpires on 23 August (the ninth day after the feast of the Virgin Mary).
The custom takes place in Naoussa and the representation of the pirate attack on the port is a way for residents to exorcise the memories of the raiders who ravaged the island for many years.
The custom has the pirates come in from the sea with flares, kidnap the women and run through the narrow streets.
During the bright celebration, visitors are treated to souma (a local spirit), octopus, small fish and other delicacies, as well as fireworks, live music and performances by dance troupes. The event is organized by the Municipality of Paros in collaboration with local associations
